massage therapy

Woman receiving a back massageMassage is widely recognised for its ability to help relax and heal the body. Benefits can be psychological as well as physical; patients often feel more relaxed, less anxious and better able to sleep after massage.

Holistic Massage

As the name suggests, Holistic massage takes into account the “whole” person, so that means looking at not only your physical wellbeing but other factors in your life, such as work, lifestyle, diet and emotional state. Massage can then be tailored to your individual needs.

The aim is to help provide a soothing, relaxing experience, helping to relieve stress and tension and provide relief from pain and soreness. Massage can also help to improve circulation and lymphatic flow (the body’s system for releasing the build up of toxins).

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is focused more towards relieving chronic tension in specific targeted muscle groups, rather than for pure relaxation purposes. The technique focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, using stronger, deeper strokes on the contracted areas, either following or going across the muscle fibres, tendons and fascia.

When muscles are stressed they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation and the build up of toxins in the muscle tissue. Deep tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly again.

Sports Massage

Ideal for those who compete or train repetitively, a sports massage is a great way to maintain peak performance. The stress of repetitive training and over exertion can lead to build up of lactic acids, muscle tension, swelling and minor soft tissue injuries or lesions.

Massage can help to break down any minor lesions, relieve tension and stiffness and help to improve flexibility. Blood circulation to the fatigued muscles will be improved, thereby giving a helping hand to the healing process and reduce recovery time.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy combines the healing effects of massage with the soothing effects of aromatic essential oils. Your massage therapist will work with you to determine which essential oils will be of greatest benefit to you (for instance, Jasmine is known for it's relaxing properties to help aid restful sleep).

Note:-  Care will always be taken to ensure that any essential oils used are appropriate for your health circumstances. For example, certain oils are not recommended during pregnancy, such as Rosemary, which is thought to increase blood pressure.

Massage Appointments and Options

Your massage therapist will work with you to ensure you get the best result for your particular circumstances.  For instance, you may want a full body treatment in order to gain maximum relaxation. However, if you want your therapist to focus on a particular part of the body, say your shoulders and neck which are tight, then she will be happy to do this. Also your therapist will be happy to adjust the massage intensity to suit your preference. Just let her know what you need.

Session options are as follows:-
